Your child’s first preschool swimming lesson is exciting — and such a big milestone.
They’ll be bursting with pride to swim independently without an adult in the water, showing off their skills and water confidence, building strong connections with others, and developing lifelong aquatic skills.
At Mighty Splash Swim School, we set the tone from the moment we meet your little sidekick, ensuring their first experience in our pool is positive, safe and fun.
Our small classes are easy to book online and are delivered by exceptional teachers who genuinely care. We are experts in helping even the most nervous swimmers find their confidence, turning water apprehension into aquatic adventures.
Our preschool swimming lessons mark the beginning of our Learn to Swim programme, starting with STA’s Grade 1 award.
The programme is designed to teach basic swimming and water safety skills for learners aged 3–4 years old.
STA Grade 1 celebrates all the skills your child has learnt so far, with the added bonus of marking your child’s confidence and competence by demonstrating their skills without an adult in the water.

About our preschool lessons
Our preschool classes are limited to six children. Each child swims independently, with a teacher in the water with the group.
At this age, your child is developing their fundamental movement skills. We encourage these skills during lessons, as they are central to learning to swim. These skills include:
- Walking, running, jumping and kicking
- Balancing, throwing, catching and rolling
- Hopping, skipping, leaping and galloping
These movement skills are developed in the water and form the start of your child’s swimming development. It’s great fun for our preschoolers learning how to move, play and socialise in the water!
When and where?
We currently run preschool swimming lessons at Prior Park College, Bath during the following time slots (each lesson is 30 minutes long):

Get a headstart on your hero’s journey

Find the right level for your little hero
Not sure if your little one should be in our preschool or adult and child classes? Knowing where your child should be on our swimming pathway is important, but don’t worry — we are here to help.
First, use our innovative Find Your Level tool to check your child’s level. This tool breaks down the skills required for each class and will help you confidently choose the class you’d like to try.
Next, come along for a free trial. We’ll work out which class your child should be in and ensure there’s a time and day that’s right for you. If we think your child will thrive in a different class, we’ll talk to you on the day of your trial and we can plan together where their next class will be.
It’s important to pick an entry-level class that feels right to you. It’s always better to start off in a lower stage and gain confidence, than to start higher and feel deflated.
As a quick guide for young children, we recommend the following:
- 2 to 3-year-olds who are complete beginners to swimming, maybe nervous in water — adult and child lessons
- 3 to 4-year-olds who are somewhat confident, independent water travellers — preschool swimming lessons
Coming from another swim school? We always make sure your child is happy and confident with their skills before moving them to their next stage. We appreciate that every swim school is different and does things differently. That’s why we’ll assess your child when they come for their free trial lesson, then support them through any changes.

No, our preschool lessons are group lessons for children with a teacher in the water. However, we understand if you have a nervous child to begin with and they would like an adult with them. If so, we can support and gently ease the adult out of the water.
